Cheese?

This whole, “no lactose” thing is a bit of a challenge. Alternatives are not always great substitutes. We’ve tried some cheese alternatives and although they look like they would do the trick…they don’t always live up to my expectations. (when I cheat, and have lactose/dairy, I blame everyone else for not making good alternatives)

Have any of you other non-lactose people found that lactose free cheese is weird? I’ve found that when you melt it, it kind of disappears. Am I crazy?

One cheese that we have found, that I do really like is, Galaxy Nutritional Foods Rice Slices. They are gluten free, lactose free, soy free, cholesterol free and trans fat free. They are kind of just free of everything. They actually melt like real cheese and they come in cute little slices perfect for grilled cheese.

We found these at Superstore in the “health food” aisle. I really like Superstore, they have the best selection of GF and LF products under one roof.

I can’t stand the texture of the lactose free cheese. When I tried it, it was very crumbly. The slices have always looked better, but after my first experience, I haven’t wanted to experiment again. :P

I know exactly what you mean about texture – sometimes it’s just WRONG. I would definitely suggest trying these cheese slices.

    Credit where credit is due.

Superstore really put their best foot forward to make loads of people happy.

Ethnic groups, food intolerance people, allergies, fine to see that a huge company like that can do it.

And they are affordable! Sometimes the big chains charge an arm and a leg for “alternative” foods.
