Fridge Cleaner Meal (FCM): The act of pulling all bits and bobs of food from one’s fridge and attempting to make a meal out of it. This act is usually performed the day before payday, and/or the day before grocery shopping.
Yesterday was an FCM night for us. Our fridge had been taken over by the most random combination of vegetables, in the most useless quantities – two mushrooms, 1/3 of a cucumber, 10 roma tomatoes, zucchini, 1/2 onion – red, white and yellow – I think you get the point.
I hate when food goes bad and I have to throw it out – that is the epitome of throwing out money. So out came the crock pot! The crock pot is the best invention of all time! Throw in whatever is in the fridge, add a little meat, dump some sauce on it and in a few hours you can call it dinner! That’s almost easier then Mac’N'Cheese…almost!
Last night we used this awesome Sharwood’s, Balti Sauce. We found it at Safeway (and have since seen it at Superstore) and thought we’d give it a go in the crock pot. SO GOOD. Like gourmet GOOD. Just enough spice for Fiance, and not too much spice for me. So GOOD.
Sharwood’s makes a number of gluten free sauces. Next on our list is the butter chicken. I would suggest looking on the back of the label to make sure that the one you are picking up is gluten free – it’s written in small print below the ingredients list.
Happy FCM day to you!
