I’m High Maintenance.

I’m high maintenance.

It doesn’t take me an hour to get ready to leave the house, I don’t freak out about a broken nail, and I don’t make outrageous demands of others.

I’m high maintenance because I’m a Celiac.

Normally, I can compensate for my issues. I bring my own food and drinks to parties. I research all the products I use and I never expect others to make accommodations on my behalf. Normally, I am as low maintenance as this disease will allow me to be.

That being said, sometimes the maintenance of myself cannot be avoided. I hate it. It’s awkward. I am not comfortable with all the attention and I hate being known as “That Guy”.

Recently, I was going to find myself in another “That Guy” situation. My sister was getting married and I was the Maid of Honor. Being the MOH brings with it enough attention, but being the MOH with Celiac disease at a weekend wedding away from it all, turns you into the side show. Every meal I was going to eat would different than the group, my mom would have to make my lunch and pack it in a lunch box, my drinks would have to be separate and my Celiac’ness would be the focus. I was not looking forward to it.

I worried for no reason.

I had a great, poison free weekend.

Buffalo Mountain Lodge stepped up and did not disappoint. All of my meals were great, they timed them so that I was never waiting. They called me in the morning to let me know that they had GF Bread just in case I needed breakfast, they even had a separate shot glass to pour my drinks with so as to avoid cross-contamination. They took my situation seriously, and they informed themselves. I felt like one of the crew. I felt no different then everyone else. I felt as normal as I ever could.

Thank you Buffalo Mountain Lodge. Thank you for taking the stress off my family and myself, thank you for setting it up so that all I had to focus on was the wedding and getting the bride down the isle.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank my family. Thank you to my sister and brother-in-law. You guys went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. This was your day and you put my health first. That is amazing. And another big thank you goes to my mom. Thank you for packing me extra food and drinks – there is a lot of security in knowing that every situation can be handled with a little help from your family.

I guess what I’m getting at here people is this: Buffalo Mountain Lodge cares about you. Go have a great weekend in the Mountains knowing that you are well taken care of.

CRMR is a brilliant company. They have a few properties around town and now even a retail store on 17th Ave SW.

    Congratulations to your sister.

Wow, reading your post was scarey cause I really can relate to how you feel about being “that guy”. I feel exactly the same. I hate for people to go out of there way because of me. I also had the most wonderful experience this summer with family & friends. We do a annual family camping trip every year. We are talking big, 25 people. We also split the cooking of dinner. In groups we take a night to cook for everyone. I was so afraid and brought extra food just in case. But my family is so awesome they really went out of their way and asked questions. I ate with everyone and did not get sick once in the 5 days. It made my heart swell, I love my family. I will definately keep Buffalo Mountain Lodge in my good place book.
