This post is not about gluten.
This post is about making a difference.
Most people have a cause that they feel strongly about – something they devote time and energy too because they feel the need to make a difference. For me, that cause is Breast Cancer. 1 in 8 women will be affected by breast cancer – a very dangerous but also treatable cancer.
I’m constantly struck by this statistic because I come from a family of women – in fact the women in our family out number the men 3-1. And now that I have 3 nieces, it pulls me to make an even bigger impact on their lives. Isn’t that the point? To leave the next generation with a brighter future than the one we have?
3 years ago this pull to make a difference lead me to an event called The Weekend To End Breast Cancer – a 60km walk over 2 days. Fundraising, walking, collapsing, tears, joy and hope all take over and at the end you wonder, does this really make a difference – yes yes it does. This year I spoke to a total stranger who’s wife and sister in-law were breast cancer survivors. He thanked me for caring enough about his “girls” to put my body and mind through this difficult experience. It was no longer so hard. It was peanuts in comparison to what a family living with breast cancer goes through.
So what’s the point of this post? To let everyone know that life has it’s “take aways”, and it also has it’s opportunities to “give back.” No matter what the cause, no matter what the means, we all have an opportunity to make a difference.
Thank you to everyone who has made not only this year, but the last 3 years possible. 180km, $6, 000, endless GF meals cooked and delivered – it matters, and it’s all because of you! You know who you are! Thank you for all the love and support, everything is possible with a little love and support.
