For those of you that have been lurking this site for awhile, you know that I am lactose intolerant. Those of you that just started lurking this site…um…I’m lactose intolerant!
So many of us have this added affliction. In comparison to the Celiac life, lactose intolerance is not a big deal. However, it is yet another thing that you need to think about on a daily bases. It sucks.
Good News: I just found a place that makes it suck a little less.
That place is Say Cheese Fromagerie Inc, at the Crossroads Market. This tiny little shop located across from Simple Simon Pies has a great selection of lactose free cheese. Lactose free Gouda, cheddar, some type of lactose free cheese from Germany – it’s all good! Enough is enough with the plastic tasting rice cheese alternatives. I urge you to stop by one weekend and check it out.
And for the cheese eaters that lurk this site – I wish I was you. That being said, there are a lot of choices there for you as well. This is one of the few places I know of that has Kefalotiri cheese, the cheese they use in Saganaki. Damn, now I want Saganaki.
Say Cheese Everyone!

Hi Susan.
I’m not sure about the casein free part. if you want to talk to them before making your way down there you can email them at: nancyb8@telus.net or call 403-262-7530. Nancy Brown is the proprietor and I’m sure she would be more than happy to help. ALL of the staff there were very helpful and knowledgeable. When/if you find out please let me know – it’s good information for everyone to have.
Fingers crossed for you!

I heart you! From one Celiac Lactose intolerant to another. I have a harder time with the lactose than gluten. I am running to the farmers market this weekend. I would kill for some nice cheese for a change. mmmmm gouda

Hey Karen. The best part about it all is that you get to taste test before buying! I say try it all and pick your favourite.
